Germany

Germany’s impact on the rest of Europe can hardly be understated - from the time of Charlemagne’s Holy Roman Empire to the rise of the Nazis, Germany’s neighbours have always felt its influence. Now it’s one of the most modern and technically advanced countries in Europe, and yet here you’ll also find the delights of fairytale castles, lakes and forests, and beer made according to regulations laid down nearly 500 years ago.

Berlin

Berlin is now, officially, the capital of Germany. New buildings, built by world-class architects have sprouted up throughout the 'New Berlin'. The city has maintained a cultural richness, sustaining a fascinating and diverse selection of museums and monuments. Still a city of two sides, the west embraces alternative lifestyles with a vivacious nightlife and an atmosphere of mounting excitement while the east is a journey through a living museum. Beyond the main thoroughfares there are lively bars, all night entertainment and interesting little cafe.

Freiburg

Freiburg is undoubtedly one of Germany' s most attractive cities. It is small enough to allow you to feel "at home" from your first day, yet at the same time big enough to be international, exciting and vibrant. Freiburg has a population of around 200,000, of which 25,000 are university and college students, and a history that goes back some 900 years. The old city centre still bears witness to this. Freiburg is the gateway to the Black Forest and a centre of winegrowing and the arts.

Munich

Munich nestles between art and beer like a village between hills." Originally written by Heinrich Heine some 150 years ago, these words remain true today. With the oktoberfest and opera, Hofbräuhaus beer hall and Pinakothek art galleries, BMW and Bayern Munich, the city manages to marry old Bavarian tradition with vibrant modern life. It really is a dream city come true.
