Course Levels

You will be given a language assessment and interview upon arrival at the language school to establish the correct class for you. Some of our centres also ask you to complete a written assessment before your arrival as well. Our language schools, for the most, use the European Common Framework of reference for languages. However, to help self-assess your level, we have simplified levels below. Please note your opinion about your level, may differ from the Professional assessment done on the first day of your course as is merely to assist with your enrolment.

We offer courses at the following levels:

Starting Out/Beginner
Students with no knowledge of the language.

Survival/Elementary
Students who can say a few isolated words, some short phrases.

Rusty / Lower Intermediate
Students who can communicate on simple topics but with mistakes and hesitations.

Brush Up / Upper Intermediate
Students with a good command of the language, who can take part in conversations but still have a comprehension problem as well as lack of ease in expression.

Fluent / Advanced
Students who can express themselves with ease but would like to widen their vocabulary and improve their fluency and comprehension in the general and / or specific areas.

For BUSINESS COURSES and ONE-TO-ONE COURSES you will also be given a needs analysis to establish what you need to learn and for which situation, so that the course can be specifically tailored to your needs.

Language Plus Special Interest: If you want to indulge your passion and also learn the language then try your hand at cookery or wine-tasting in France, drawing in Italy or flamenco dancing in Spain. Language Plus programmes include: Cooking, Drawing and Painting, Wine Appreciation, Music and Opera, Art, History/Archaeology, Sport and Language.
